Episode 115

Casting Pearls Before Swine (part 3)

My wife Chelsea joins me to continue our series talking about marriage.

This episode concludes a multi-part series within the series to evaluate the book Created To Be His Help Meet by Debi Pearl.

Chelsea and I agree that any good points in this book are drowned out by what we consider dangerous and unbiblical ideas of marriage. Although there is a proper understanding of wives submitting to husbands, we believe this book takes the idea to an unhealthy extreme.

The book denigrates women by defining their role as lifelong slaves to men.

The book denigrates men by relegating them to base impulses and domineering.

In part 3 of our review, we examine Debi's idea of the wife's responsibility with the Biblical understanding that a "heavenly marriage" requires both husband and wife to do their part. We see Debi's shocking advice for dealing with an abusive husband and expecting a wonderful marriage after the husband spends up to 20 years in jail. As the Pearls seem to believe divorce can't possibly be an option when the husband is a criminal, we see what the Bible has to say.
